Exterior shutters are an easy way to boost your building's curb appeal. Available in many colors and styles, they can be installed on various surfaces like wood, vinyl, or brick. With installation supplies such as drills, fasteners, and ladders, construction contractors can feel confident tackling shutter installation projects with Power Bold and Tool.
1) Remove old shutters: If there are existing shutters, take them off carefully.
2) Position new shutter: Place the new shutter next to the window. Ensure the shutter is straight by using a level. Remember, the bottom rail is typically wider.
3) Drill mounting holes: Lay the shutter flat and mark drill spots 2 inches from the top, bottom, and two mid-way along the side rails. Pre-drill using a 1/4-inch drill bit.
4) Drill pilot holes: Reposition the shutter and use the pre-drilled holes as a guide. Drill 1/4-inch pilot holes into the wall at each mark. Remember, though, that if you are not planning to use the original fastener holes for your shutters, make sure to fill them with silicone caulking to avoid the intrusion of moisture or insects.
5) Install the shutter: Insert fasteners through the shutter and into the wall. Tap gently with a hammer, avoiding overtightening to prevent warping.
